On May 23, 2011, an immigration judge in Houston granted asylum to one of our clients after merit hearing in the immigration court.
Our client in this case previously filed an affirmative asylum application to the USCIS through the representation of another law office. The petition was denied after the interview in the asylum office and then the client came to Lin & Valdez seeking our help.
Attorney Stewart Lin represented the client in the removal proceeding in the immigration court. He found that the previous presentation of the case actually lost focus of the merit of the case. At the trial, he focused the examination of the client on her claim of being persecuted for violating the family planning policy of her country. The court eventually agreed that our client was statutorily qualified for asylum and granted the relief immediately after the trial.
