USCIS has released an advisory on processing times which states that due to the significant increase in the number of applications filed this summer, processing times for the pending cases have increased.
According to the USCIS, about 2,500,000 petitions were received between July and August of this year. Compared with the 1.2 million applications and petitions received last year during the same period, the increase is over 100%. In addition, USCIS has also received 1,400,000 applications for naturalization this year. Also almost 100 percent increase over last year.
To handle the increased caseload, the USCIS has increased 1,500 new employees. Nevertheless, readers should expect increase in processing times for cases pending with USCIS.
