Sources at USCIS indicate that the first two days of filings for H-1Bs for fiscal year 2007, starting at April 1, 2006, are at about the same pace as last year.
As know to our readers, the present H-1 cap stands at 20,000 for people with master or higher degree earned from US universities, and 65,000 for people without. However, the 65,000 cap also includes about 5,800 quota reserved to Singapore and Chile nationals.
Last year, the cap was reached on August 10, 2005. USCIS expects to have a count of initial receipts within a week. Despite of the early count, we urge readers to file their H-1s as soon as possible because we are in the opinion that the cap will be reached much earlier than last year unless the Congress agrees to add new quota to H-1s.
